Hi, y’all! Let me start off by first thanking you for joining me on this adventure of blogging. Each month I will be posting seasonal recipes and nutrition related advance. Each recipe will be tested by my toughest critique before posting. Because lets be real, who wants to make something that is absolutely disgusting. I will also be taking the time to post nutritional advice that you, as the readers want to know.
Before we get into all of the details of how this blog is going to work, I’m sure you’re a little curious to know whom I am. I am a recent graduate of the Masters of Science in Nutrition and Food Systems from the University of Kentucky, and also a licensed Registered Dietitian. I grew up in Owensboro, Kentucky, and fell in love with Lexington when I moved here straight out of high school to begin my undergraduate degree. My fascination with nutrition and how eating right can help prevent and reduce the risks of diseases came about by watching loved ones make healthy eating choices, and avoid the need for medications. I wanted to learn more of how this all worked, and to help others achieve optimal health too. Now, this dream I once had, is my reality, and I wouldn’t trade it for a thing. When I’m not blogging or teaching classes, I enjoy running, traveling, trying new recipes, water skiing, gardening, and planning my wedding!
Now, back to the purpose of this blog. As I was thinking of how I wanted to start this first post, I was doing everyone’s least favorite chore…. cleaning. At the beginning of the year I had made a New Year’s Resolution that I was going to clean my house once a week. This came about after what I thought was going to be an easy clean turned into a deep cleaning due to the amount of dirt and dust built up. At first I was motivated to keep this new resolution. I would wake up every Saturday, and that’s the first thing I would do. Then, life happened. As someone who was finishing a master’s degree, letting the cleaning task slip by was easy for me to do. Now that my degree is completed, I am trying to be more intentional in cleaning like I had initially set out to do.
I’m sure you are wondering where I am going with the story about me being lazy when it comes to cleaning. Well, our eating and physical activity habits are just like cleaning. It’s easy to do when we are motivated, making the time, and find that extra ounce of energy, but when one more thing is added to our schedule; it’s easy to let go of. When it’s let go of, the dust and clutter continues to build until we decide it’s finally time to clean again. At that moment it turns into an overwhelming, exhausting chore, that we keep telling ourselves we will never let get this bad again. When we make taking care of ourselves a habit by eating well and exercising, its just like making cleaning a habit; there isn’t as much clutter and dust that we want to get rid of, and seems more manageable. We’re able to tell ourselves, this is easy, this is manageable, and I can do this!
Through my help, I have every intention to help make the cleaning task of eating well and exercising a little less daunting, and to help you achieve your personal nutritional goals. The purpose of this blog isn’t only for nutritional advice. It’s also to help motivate each of us, myself included, to live a healthy lifestyle, and inspiring each other along the way. Thanks for joining me, and stay tuned to Libelle Eats!

You Glow, Girl! – Microdermabrasion
By Cicely Carter
Who doesn’t love luminous and radiant skin? The kind that models sport down the runway, the look of sun kissed, dewy skin in the summer. I know I do! Sometimes our topical moisturizers, self tanners and Anastasia highlighters just don’t do the trick! Enter my friend: Microdermabrasion. Although it’s a long and technical word, the benefits and the procedure is relatively short and sweet.
So what is a Microdermabrasion anyways?
The procedure is a “non-chemical, mechanical exfoliation that removes the superficial layer of skin usually comprised of dead, dry skin cells”. By removing the uppermost layer of dead and dry skin, you are allowing for smoother, more radiant, new skin to literally shine. The procedure itself takes anywhere from 30-60 minutes with a licensed esthetician using a wand and a mechanical exfoliator to literally polish away your dead skin. Makeup will sit better on the face, your skin will be brighter and smoother and best of all your natural, radiant beauty can shine through!
But..how can it help me?
Microdermabrasion is indicated for most skin types and a variety of skin issues. To ensure that it’s the right treatment for you, stop by and see us at Libelle. Your skincare consultation is always free and rest assured that we will customize a skincare regimen suited for your skin type and concerns. To set up an appointment use our convenient online scheduler or give us a call at (859) 264-0006.
More Collagen? Yes, Please! – Microneedling
By Cicely Carter
Microneedling (aka collagen induction therapy or simply needling) is a process used to treat facial scars and wrinkles. It is an effective procedure that is minimally invasive, but has a very quick recovery time and you can see results within the first couple of days.
I want younger, plumper skin…Tell me more!
Using a “pen” that has a needle insert, small holes are poked into the skin’s surface (after your face is all nice and numb of course). These micro injuries to the face cause your skin to stimulate collagen production in order to heal. When that collagen is produced, you see the magic results of plumper, newer skin. Microneedling can also be used on various areas of the body as well to prompt the same results.
It sounds painful and what’s downtime like?
No pain no gain, right? Not necessarily! A topical numbing cream is applied to the face or treatment area prior to needling and most clients report feeling pain of about a 2 or 3 on a scale of 1 to 10. Mild discomfort for amazing results for the win! The procedure takes around 30 minutes and the immediate after affects for the skin include redness similar to a mild sunburn. Sunscreen is applied post treatment. Also a specialized skincare regimen will be advised to better care for your skin post procedure.
If Microneedling sounds intriguing or you at least have some questions or concerns, feel free to speak with one of our professionals on the phone and schedule your free consultation to see if Microneedling is right for your skin.

Three Simple Steps to Healthy Skin
that everyone should be doing regardless of age, gender, or skin type!
By. Taevia Boden L.E.
With So many products available and sources of skin care information it can be more than overwhelming trying to start a skin care routine. It can also become expensive. How do you know what products are most important? You may ask yourself, “is this something I really need?” “What is this product actually going to do for me?” “Is it worth the price I’m going to be paying?” These are all important questions you should ask yourself before investing into an expensive skin care regime. There are a lot of fantastic anti-aging products available however if your skin is not “prepped” and in a health state, then you are not going to get the full benefit from those skin care products. One of my favorite quotes is” your wealth is in your health”. Feeling good doing your job,
playing a sport, and enjoying doing something you like are goals that everyone naturally want to
achieve. Massage therapy can get you where you want to be on your journey’s path. The word is
finally spreading about how necessary massage therapy is to the body. This ancient modality has
many effects to bring balance in our lives. (more…)
